The Guildhall School of Music and Drama was founded in 1880 to provide independent music and drama educational facilities of the highest caliber. It is now one of the leading institutions of its kind in the world. But by 2004 the fabric of their main auditorium and music theatre was showing wear and tear, and location of some of the equipment also prevented the rapid chage of settings needed for the halls' operation. The school decided to renovate and upgrade the facilities to keep the hall in line with their internationally high standards for excellence.
