AT&T Performing Arts Center, Winspear Opera House

Dallas, Texas, USA

Completion

Architect

Foster and Partners, Kendall/Heaton Associates
In 1984, we conducted an extensive study for the City of Dallas in which we recommended creating the Dallas Arts District. As part of that district, we imagined an American opera house designed for the needs of 21st century modern performance, but inspired by the traditional European horseshoe opera form. The iconic Winspear Opera House designed by Norman Foster will surely become a focal point of the Arts District. This 2,200-seat venue features both an intimate performance setting as well as grand public spaces, all while housing the Dallas Opera in 200,000 square feet. The building can also support community and touring performances. Our careful planning and technical design will allow the building's users to easily accommodate these additional events — making Dallas an attractive destination for the performing arts and the people who enjoy them.
