REX/OMA, Joshua Prince-Ramus (partner in charge) and Rem Koolhaas | Kendall/Heaton Associates
The Dallas Theater Center came to us looking for staging flexibility and performance intimacy in their new facility. In response, we devised a multiform space that can be arranged in a variety of configurations, depending on the company's artistic needs. We created advanced rigging, platform, lift, and turntable designs so the space can be configured for up to 600 seats in proscenium, thrust, arena, traverse, and flat floor arrangements. The building's dramatic design organizes 75,000 square feet in a stacked, vertical array, and gives the public uninterrupted views of the theatre through vast acoustic glass walls. In the upper regions of the REX/OMA-designed tower building, unexpected interior views give the individual spaces a feeling of openness. The Wyly Theatre rethinks the traditional form of the theatre building in a spectacular way.
