UCLA Glorya Kaufman Hall

Los Angeles, California, USA

Completion

2005

Architect

Moore Ruble Yudell
This extensive renovation project included the redesign of the 299-seat Glorya Kaufman Dance Theater into a three-dimensional, multiform performance and teaching space. Also housed in Glorya Kaufman Hall is the Amber Dance Studio with telescopic seating risers for an audience of 90 that can be cleared quickly to create a flat floor rehearsal space. In addition to the renovated spaces, a new outdoor dance pavilion, the Kaufman Family Garden Theater, was created adjacent to Kaufman Hall. The Garden Theater has an enclosable pavilion space for intimate dance and music events. For larger events the front glass wall of the space opens up to a grass courtyard, allowing the pavilion to become the stage and the grass courtyard to become open-air seating.
