Unicorn Children's Theatre
July 1, 2004
The launch of Architecture Week took place on 18 June at the site of the Unicorn Children's Centre in London.
Architecture Week is an annual celebration of architecture with around 350 talks, tours, workshops, family events and performances across the UK. This year the event ran between 18-27 June.

Theatre Projects Consultants have been working on the Unicorn's auditorium design, technical infrastructure (lighting, sound), theatre planning (sightlines and seating) and engineering with Keith Williams Architects.
The Royal Institute of British Architects' president, George Ferguson, praised the designs for the Tooley Street theatre, which will become a "real London landmark". The Unicorn Theatre was chosen for the launch as a good example of innovative architecture being created with public access and involvement in mind.
BBC London radio presenter and Architecture Week patron, Robert Elms, gave a speech on the importance of making architecture accessible and architect, Keith Williams, spoke about his part in the design of the new building in the context of the 60 year history of the children's theatre company.
The building is due to open in Autumn 2005, but £2 million GBP still needs to be raised to meet the £12.6 million total cost of the project.
Children from the local Tower Bridge Primary School have been involved with the development of the Unicorn's new home, as "young consultants".
