Chicago Shakespeare Theater wins Regional Theater Tony Award
July 10, 2008
Theatre Projects is excited to congratulate the Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) for winning the Regional Theater Tony Award. TPC was the theatre consultant during the planning, design, and construction of this facility.
This Tony win salutes a nonprofit professional regional theatre company in the United States that has displayed a continuous level of artistic achievement contributing to the growth of theatre nationally. It was presented to Artistic Director Barbara Gaines and Executive Director Criss Henderson on June 15, 2008. In addition to being recognized as one of the leading repertory houses in the US, this win also brings a $25,000 grant.
Located at Navy Pier on Lake Michigan, this facility contains a courtyard theatre with a thrust stage backed up by a stage house and staging areas. Features include a fully-trapped stage and a stage entrance located in the rear of the auditorium. Sir Peter Hall, founder of England's Royal Shakespeare Company, proclaimed it to be one of the best Elizabethan-style theatres in the world.
