A Theatre Projects Reunion in Las Vegas
April 16, 2007

Richard Pilbrow, David Collison, and Richard Brett visited seven of the principle Las Vegas theatrical spectaculars in March. This was a reunion for three old friends and of the founders of Theatre Projects in lighting, sound and theatre consulting.

Richard Brett (theatre consulting), Richard Pilbrow (lighting), and David Collison (sound)

Richard Pilbrow founded Theatre Projects in 1957. Today he is the Founder and Chairman Emeritus of Theatre Projects Consultants and is one of the world's leading theatre consultants, a theatre, film and television producer, and an internationally known author and stage lighting designer. Under his leadership, Theatre Projects has become the pre-eminent theatre consulting organization in the world, with over 1,000 projects in 60 countries.

David Collison joined Richard Pilbrow in the fledgling company, Theatre Projects, in 1959 and became managing director of the Theatre Projects group in 1985. During the 1970s and 1980s, as one of the world's foremost theatre sound designers (the first person to be credited with that title), he worked on more than seventy musicals. As part of the Theatre Projects consultancy team, he designed sound systems for the National Theatre of Great Britain, the Barbican Theatre and many other theatres and concert halls in the UK and abroad - inaugurating a number of technical innovations. In 1988 he formed Adventure Projects to specialize in multi-media presentations, themed exhibitions, and historical interpretation. He has also written and directed numerous video films. David's book, Stage Sound was published in 1976 with a second edition in 1982. He is currently writing a new book on the history of sound in the theatre to be published in 2007.

Richard Brett was the first Managing Director of Theatre Projects Consultants from 1965 to 1985. As a qualified engineer from the British Broadcasting corporation he brought professional engineering standards to TPC and led the development of countless innovations such as the National Theatre's computerized power flying spot-line system, the famous drum revolving stage and the lighting control, Lightboard; with the first use of air castors in the theatre to move architectural elements in Derngate, Northampton. Richard is the head of Theatreplan LLP, who have been responsible for some of the most sophisticated theatre installations in the world including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, the Gran Teatro del Liceo, Barcelona and the new Opera House in Copenhagen.
