ImaginOn Receives LEED Silver Certification

August 28, 2006

The ImaginOn: Joe and and Joan Martin Center in Charlotte, North Carolina has been awarded the LEED Silver Certification.

As defined on the U.S. Green Building Council's website: "The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System® is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings."

The architectural team of Gantt Hubermann and Holzman/Moss was the driving force behind attempting a LEED certification on the ImaginOn project. Having discussed the pros and cons of attempting a sustainable design in Charlotte, they felt that this project was perfect for this attempt. TPC worked closely with the design team to retool our specifications to adhere to the standards required.

ImaginOn is the first project in Charlotte to be LEED Certified and is TPC's first LEED Certified project. There are fewer than five other performing arts projects in the US with LEED Certification.

ImaginOn is a collaborative venture of The Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County & The Children's Theatre of Charlotte. The Center houses two theatre spaces and a children's library.
